So with 3 days to go until the start of rAge 2009, I thought I would give you guys a sneak peak at the setup of the expo and the LAN area. As Friday draws near the exhibitors are scurrying to fortify their stands to defend them against the hordes of people with a lust for technology, waiting to get their hands on as many freebies as possible. So without further ado…

1st Tier Defence

1st Tier Defence

As you can see, one of the early strategies was to erect a LAN area to keep 1800 gamers distracted from pretty much the rest of the world… Who needs food or drinks or even sleep for that matter when you have 1799 other people to leech from, let alone play games. I wonder how many PC stores made money off hard drives only for this event?!

I am pretty sure most of us have had to live through the harsh experience of 1000+ remotes in your living room that control all your multimedia devices. Luckily for us some genius came up with the idea of 1 remote that controls everything, except that remote could not control everything and was a mission to program. Good news, Logitech have released the Logitech Harmony 700; a remote control that promises to clear your living room of unnecessary clutter and leave you with one sexy remote.

We wrote about EyeOS a while back and were quite excited to see what people would offer with this new cloud computing software. We have subsequently been contacted by Eye-OS.co.uk, a new start up so to speak. We immediately smashed some questions back at them to get more information of where they are at and where they are heading.

We wrote about MWEB giving you more bandwidth for the same price and now we have just received news that Afrihost has slashed their prices for broadband.

The lastest price cut by Afrihost is really going to blow the broadband market wide open with a 1GB package starting at R29. Now these are the prices that we want to see and even though we need to go lower with both line rental prices and the price of broadband, South Africa is heading in the right direction in terms of making broadband available to a majority of the public.

Check out the packages Afrihost have to offer over here.

Update: apparently this is a marketing move so there are only a few accounts available so you better sign up quickly

Sony Ericsson's new MH907 headphones read your mind

Streamed by Seagyn on the 22nd September 2009

Well they don’t really. The Sony Ericsson MH907 headphones are actually motion activated and will turn your music on or off depending on what you do to them. Sounds fantastic.

MH907 Black

MH907 Black

Exactly how do they work, you ask. Well by simply plugging in both the earphones your music playback is resumed allowing you to jam to the latest beats. Then when that irritating person tries to speak to you, hoping that their voice will carry through the music playing from the earphones in side your ear, you can simply pull out one of the earphones which magically pauses your music allowing you to speak to the irritation. Simply place the earphone back in your ear to continue your music experience.

A bit of Blueworld fun and games

Streamed by Seagyn on the 18th September 2009

We just love fun and games here at Tx Daily and we also are fairly entertained by old school antics. Remember those days when whilst playing your favourite games on Sega or PlayStation 1 you could hit a key combination which would activate a cheat or do something cool. Well those days are still around with websites joining in on the act.

Blueworld has a little “cheat” up their sleeve much like Facebook did a while back. Basically if you enter a key combination their little mascot pops up, nice. You got to have a look at it yourself and listen to the song. So visit the Blueworld website, punch in the following combination on the keyboard Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A and what you should get is this:

If you don’t do this go get a Sega and practice.

Meeting the Mede8er Multimedia Monster

Mede8er Multimedia Monster

I’m quite a fanatic when it comes to High Definition TV, media and hardware. I have a 42” Plasma screen set-up together with a new 23.6” AOC monitor. Having a plasma screen I am very picky when it comes to video and the quality thereof. I have been keeping up with the times and been enjoying Full HD content a lot, this leads me to the subject of this post.

There are a few media players on the market but to date I have not even considered getting my hand on one of them. Mvix did in the later models support Full HD content which was the first product I looked at. However it only had HDMI 1.0 support which means no sound through HDMI, so I was still not sold. I am pleased to say that I have found a media player worth looking at. This nifty device is called the Mede8er MED500X.

In the first X-com you were tasked with defending earth from invading aliens. Forty years after the first alien war, which lasted 3 years, was won, you are faced with a new alien threat which is emerging from the depths of the ocean. The game plays out under water. Your base is under water, the mission you take will be taking place under water. Basically the only time you will go onto land is when the aliens decide to attack a shipping dock or some tropical Island. (more…)
