eyeOS new user creation
I have recently stumbled across this little gem of an application called eyeOS. This is a open source web browser based desktop following the concept of cloud computing, written mainly in PHP, XML and JavaScript. Basically this means it is “windows” in a web browser. Out the box it comes standard with 67 applications and system utilities. To name a few; an office equivalent, an email client, an internet browser, a calculator, a facility for internal messages, a calendar and many more applications you would expect on an Operation System.
Looking to get more applications for your eyeOS? No problem, head on over to the eyeOS Applications and have a browse through their vast list of applications. There are sure to be some applications that will grab your fancy.

You can download the whole application from the eyeOS website. You can also go have a look at a live demo before downloading it. I have to say, it has a very Linux feel to it.

Lets get into why I am liking this application and some cool ideas to do with this application.
First off, you can access your desktop from anywhere and on any device that has internet access, including your phone. In other words you are always “in office”.
Some scenarios which I can think off to put this to use, is setting up a office environment at a very low cost. For example, spend some cash on a decent server, which will be running your eyeOS application. You wouldnt need to fork out cash for multiple Windows OS licenses, load some distribution of Linux OS on the server. Once that is done, get some cheap pc’s or even the Asus EEE Netbooks. Again, you can load a linux OS like Ubuntu on there. From here on you will have most of your basic day to day applications. Without having to go out and spend cash on licenses, because everything is Open Source.

eyeOS is definately going to play a big part in the future of browser based desktops, its open source nature means it can be changed and improved upon by those who have a good enough knowledge of PHP, Javascript and other web technologies (like me!). And thats exactly what we hope to do on our site, improve eyeOS
