Google TV to grace our living rooms

Google TV

Google have been working hard at search, mail, advertising and many other things and they have pretty much dominated most of them. More recently they have been found trying to get broadband into the houses of most Americans. So when we hear some interesting news like Google wanting to launch their very own internet television network called Google TV, we are not that surprised.

The plan is to get a Google TV device which is based on Android which will serve the best television on the net (and no doubt the best of YouTube). They (by rumour) teamed up with Sony and Intel to make this device which I am sure will come in the form of a separate little Google TV or a television monitor running the Google TV Android software.

A device like that will give you the possibility of browsing the net, watching your favorite YouTube clips and of course watching your favorite movie clips. The smart thing about it though, is that it would all be app based much like an Android smartphone. Imagine a Netflix app that gives you the choice of all their movies or a DSTV app that allows you to watch your favorite show on a pay-per-view bases (knowing Multichoice it is unlikely but still a cool idea). Being on Android the possibilities would be endless.

Now I am sure you are thinking about premiums or what Google gets out of this.  It is pretty simple, Google would now have the opportunity to enter the realm of television advertising and not only that but bring their major money maker, pay-per-click, to the television set.

The popularity of media centers added to the living room is climbing pretty quickly. If Google can set this device up to use apps, be a storage device for media and connect to television mediums we could have a clear cut winner.
