TomTom iPhone App

TomTom iPhone app

I have always liked the TomTom interface and the many features that the TomTom devices have packed in them. My biggest problem is actually having another device that I have to charge/store/move/carry; that’s why I go for phones with built in GPS systems and this is why I have not purchased an iPhone. This could all change with TomTom’s iPhone app that is already available in the App Store.

You get all the great features in the app that usually come with TomTom devices like the easy-to-use interface and the turn-by-turn navigation. These are the feature you expect from a GPS system; so what will make this app really cool? Well on top of the standard bunch of features the TomTom iPhone app will have the following:

  • A full interface designed for the iPhone
  • Night and day mode for optimised screen visibility in different lighting conditions
  • 2D and 3D map display
  • Latest maps of South Africa
  • Multi-touch gestures that iPhone users are familar with (tap, swipe etc)
  • Navigation to contacts in address book

The app will only work on the iPhone 3G and 3Gs models with OS 3.0 and will also require you to have iTunes on your PC or Apple Mac. You are looking at about R600 for the application but it is subject to the exchange rate (It costs US$79.99 if you want to know).
